MX ESPAI 1010
VI SMALL FORMAT
INTERNATIONAL CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITION
Under the heading Transnegativo (" Transnegative "), MX ESPAI 1010 offers an opportunity for reflection, based upon a text by Bárbara Versini, in which the work of the "negative ", (" the opposite, from the other side, the other "), is a vital necessity in contemporary society. The " negative " should not be the representation of evil, nor of that which is destructively irremediable. The " negative " is a space that we should include in our existence, living in harmony with it.
The author herself states : "... making the negative workmeans keeping it in mind without rejecting it, without attempting to fill it, making it a space, placing ourselves in its silence, in the emptiness of sense. It is in this emptiness that we can strip ourselves of any preconceived notions ". Later on, she adds : "... another image that could represent the work of the " negative " is that of the wound as a symbolic fact, which permits an opening... a space in which the interior and exterior, the personal and the public, merge. Buñuel's hand cutting the eye of a woman shows us how the wound symbolically represents a moment of passing and metamorphosis : art opens up to us a new form of ocular perception that goes beyond the mere retina ".
